Philosophy and Principles
In addition to those listed in its Constitution and Rules, The Democratic Labour Party affirms and proclaims its fundamental belief in and commitment to the following philosophy and principles:
² That the political party is the best medium through which the people of Barbados should have political power secured and used in their name.
² That the sound, orderly and rapid development of Barbados and its people in the shortest possible time is the prime impulse of the Democratic Labour
Party.
² That the people of Barbados constitute its greatest asset, since it is people who make development possible, who work, save and invest, who actively
contribute to the production of goods and services, who influence productivity, who generate cultural products, and who build and shape efficient and
effective organizations.
² That under God each individual has intrinsic worth, and should be enabled across his /her life span to achieve self-fulfillment and the full extent of
his/her potential.
Objects
² To adhere to, support, develop and implement in all ways possible the Philospohy and Principles of the Democratic Labour Party.
² To mobilize and enroll into fold of the Democratic Labour Party progressive persons of any race, colour or creed who accept a democratic form of
government and who recognize the focal role that labour and human resources generally must continue to play in the evolution of an improved social
economic order in Barbados.
² To secure the election of members of the Democratic Labour Party to the Parliament of Barbados and to such other elected bodies within or outside of
Barbados.
² To nominate members to serve on such bodies as may be appropriate for furthering the philosophy, principles and interests of the Party.
² To work in close collaboration and coordination with persons and bodies sharing similar principles or objectives.
² To propagate the party's philosophy, principles, programmes, policies and objects through a comprehensive scheme of public education aimed at
raising the general level of political and social consciousness in the Party and the nation.
² To support and promote the existence of a free and responsible Press, including radio and television services, as an important aspect of the giving and
receiving of fact, opinion and comment in a democratic society.
² To establish and maintain a Constituency Branch in each parliamentary constituency in Barbados.
² To establish and maintain auxiliary groups, such as youth and women's groups, as well as overseas groups and branches.
² To draw up, prepare and issue publications, including manifestos, articles and press releases in furtherance of the Party's objects.
² To establish or participate in such enterprises as may advance the principles and interests of the Party and its members.
² To promote generally the well-being of its members.
² To take such other steps as may further the principles and interests of the Party.
² To mobilize the financial and human resources necessary to further the principles and interests of the Party.
